Matthew 24:30, speaks of the coming of the Son of Man in the clouds. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
See Daniel 7:13 and Zechariah 12:10-12, at our website demonstrating the Old Testament source for this text. Jesus is quoting Old Testament prophecy. In both studies we identify the first century context of Jerusalem as the time and subject of the prophecy.

The Olivet discourse prophesies of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in A.D. 70, 24:3. The time frame for the fulfillment of Matthew 24:30, is clearly within Jesus' very own generation per verse 34.
Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
Therefore, Zechariah 12:10-12 and Daniel 7:13 find their fulfillment within the first century generation.
There can be no question then that the elements of Matthew 24:30, i.e. "all the tribes (Gk. phule) or families of the land being a reference to Zechariah 12:10-12.
In addition, the language of "seeing" the Son of Man coming on the clouds, correlates the point, "they shall look on me whom they have pierced," (crucified). The cloud coming is of course the contribution from Daniel 7:13.
That these are the precise and identical elements of Revelation 1:7, cannot be denied. Thus, Revelation 1:7, Matthew 24:30, Zechariah 12:10-12 and Daniel 7:13, are companion passages related to the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
